25 July 2010 -  Somerset Partnership News - more SSCo's showing an interest in QuadKids...

23 July 2010 -  St Dunstan's Community School Super 8 Competition.....

Yesterday some 600 children at St Dunstan's Community School enjoyed a "taster" of a QuadKids Super 8 competition. Jon Davis, Curriculum Team Leader - PE, organised the event as an alternative to the traditional sports day and to get a feel for a full blown Super 8 competition. All the staff were involved in helping or officiating and this provided the opportunity of lots of feedback for Jon.

The children were divided into houses and then into teams and the event started in the morning with years 7 & 8. Crowd support for the sprints was fantastic with lots of cheering and encouragement for the competitors. Mrs Stevenson, Headteacher at the school commented on how the event had resulted in such great team spirit. At lunchtime the staffroom was "buzzing" with discussions along similar lines and how nice it was to see the children fully involved.

After lunch it was the turn of years 9 & 10 and the competition got underway against a backdrop of a very threatening sky! Sadly the rain came down in torrents, the competitors battled against the worsening weather but it won the day and the competition was stopped as the field became seriously water logged.

Despite the unfortunate end to the day, the feedback from Jon was very positive, backed by the deputy Headteacher, and there is a firm commitment to run a Super 8 competition again next summer term.

On Tuesday 13th July the Suffolk Essex Athletic Network hosted their first Quadkids competition. Athletes from Hadleigh Hares, Stowmarket Striders and Holbrook Harriers took part in the event which provided a fantastic opportunity for young athletes to compete in a fun and exciting team-based competition format supported by England Athletics.

The competition saw five teams of athletes compete in four disciplines - sprint, middle distance run, throw and a jump with their individidual score combined to provide an overall team score. The event which was kindly hosted by Hadleigh Hares provided a great opportunity for local compettition amongst 72 young people aged between 10-14 years old.

The final results saw Team AA finishing third, closely followed by Team D in second with the overall competition being won by Team A. Commenting on the event, Tania Spurling (Athletic Network Activator) said " The first Suffolk Essex Athletics Network Quadkids competition has been a great success and will provide a brilliant opportunity for local competition in the future. 14 July 2010 -  Broadstone Middle School yr 3/4 Cluster Comp

A warm welcome awaited the visiting schools to take part in the last Quadkids event of the season for this particular cluster group.  The weather also said "hello" with blustery winds, a sharp shower and finally bright sunshine....a typical english summers day!!!
The competition was far from mild as the teams set about the four events....all keenly contested and the final result in doubt right to the end.
Overall winners were Merley but 2nd and 3rd were only seperated by a few points with Broadstone 'A' just getting the upper hand over Talbot School.  In the individual events the honours were very close in the girls scoring
1st Ella (Merley) 163pts; 2nd Mollie (Broadstone A)161pts and joint 3rd place Hannah (Broadstone A) & Kiera (Talbot) 144pts each
The boys top three all came from Merley which gave the school a great boost to the team scores!
1st Franklin 188pts; 2nd Oliver 177pts; 3rd Tom 173pts

Thanks to the young leaders from both Corfe Hills School and Broadstone Middle for their work and to Helen Dyke for her excellent coordination of the events today and in the previous event....I'm already looking forward to next year when i think the competition will really start to heat up as teams strive for a place at the county finals 2011.
