13 July 2010 -  Maiden Beech School uses QuadKids for whole school sports day

Maiden Beech School of Crewkerne has successfully used the QuadKids format in place of their traditional school sports day.

The event took place in the sunshine on Monday 12 July and involved the whole school. Some 450 plus children were involved. Simon Collett the Head of PE and Bob Brunt SSCo organised the event and were very pleased with the outcome.

Simon commented on how great it was to see children who normally avoid PE fully involved in the QuadKids event.

There were some very impressive performances and the young athletes certainly enjoyed the event. They had great crowd support from a good number of parents and relatives who came along to watch whilst basking in the heat of a glorious Somerset morning!

Results follow soon....

13 July 2010 -  Partnership between the Rotary Club of Chard & Holyrood School results in successful QuadKids event

With guidance from QuadKids, a partnership between the Rotary Club of Chard and Jason Hedaux SSCo of Holyrood School has resulted in another very successful QuadKids event in Somerset. This took place on Friday 9 July at Holyrood School, 4 schools attended and some 60 young athletes took part.

Gerald Bray of the Rotary Club who coordinated the event commented "I wish to convey our sincere thanks for your input and guidance to what has resulted in an excellent QuadKids athletics event."

He went on to say "The feedback so far has been very encouraging with enthusiasm for another meeting next year."

Thornecombe was the winning team, followed by Chard, Ashill and Buckland, though the latter school was unable to send a full team.

Full results will appear on the website soon.....

12 July 2010 -  Brighton and Hove Finals

After a term long series of events within the local secondary schools it was Finals Day at the Dorothy Stringer School !  Many of the athletes were specialsts in each of the events so the competition proved very strong and points contested right to the final events of the day.

The event was 'open' rather than team based but I think a team event next year is certainly on the cards after a great afternoons athletics. Honours were shared between many schools and the medals thoroughly deserved.

On Thursday 8th July the best athletes in Suffolk took centre stage to compete in the Suffolk Quadkids County Final. Over 100 athletes took part from 11 schools. The competition was fierce and there were some fantastic individual and team performances!

Needham Market finished third and there was a very close contest between 2nd and 3rd place with only 12 points spliting the placing. In second were.....Gorseland and the 2010 Suffolk Quadkids County Winners are Westley!!!

A big well done to everyone who took part and made the event a fantastic success! You can see your individual results on the Suffolk County Microsite in the 'results' tab. A special thank you to Ian Jackson (Senior Competition Manager) and all his staff for all their hard work to make the event so enjoyable! In addition, thank you to all the volunteers on the day who made the event run like clockwork!

It is hoped next year the County Quadkids Final will be link into an East Region Quadkids Final.

12 July 2010 -  North London children rise to QuadKids challenge #2

Once more Parliament Hill track played host to the growing North London Athletics Network QuadKids event series that begun back in May.

Our combined aim is to use this regular event to grow local momentum and ensure that local children have the opportunity to get involved with the Network Clubs via the low key but high intensity fun of a Quadkids event.

And event #2 was a cracking success based on 3 key facts:

1.New non club based children got involved for the very first time

2.Every child bar just one (she had a scorcher back in May!) scored an improved overall QuadKids score compared to our first event back in May

3.The feedback from parents and PE teachers present was overwhelmingly positive

Our three biggest improvers made huge leaps (quite literally) forward, with Tryreece Rankin making a 35% improvement, Mike Fitzpatrick a 40% and Lenna Segal a whopping 43% improvement - well done to all of our competitors and we hope to see you ALL at the next event on August 8th.

The full results with a breakdown of each child's individual results can be found on the QuadKids website via - http://www.quadkids.org/counties/Results.aspx?eventID=989&countyID=102&hasResults=true&meetingID=880&startDate=&endDate=&type=All%20results&boroughID=

And some pictures from the day have also been added to the website gallery

Thank you also to all the volunteers and friends of QuadKids who gave their time to keep the momentum building.

August 8th is our next date, so please pop it in your diaries, tell your friends and challenge your neighbours, as we look forward to even more smile inducing running, jumping and throwing!

10 July 2010 -  Southampton Cluster yr 4

If you ever need reminding why athletics competition should grow and grow just come to Southampton.  I have been involved in 3 different comps in the city this summer and all have delivered on enjoyment, competition and fair play.
Today at the Southampton Sports Centre a small but excellent Quadkids competition was enjoyed by 7 schools from the area and the only disappointment was that the SSP coordinator did not see the athletes competing.
Whilst the team competition seemed a fairly straight forward result with Shirley maintaining a lead from start to finish the individual results were anything but!!!
Team results
1st Shirley; 2nd Bitterne; 3rd Springhill

Individual results
Girls
!st Niamh (Townhill) Joint 2nd Holly (Thornhill) & Alice C (Shirley)
Boys
1st Isaak (Springhill) 203 pts
2nd Dare (Springhill ) 202 pts
3rd Charlie (Shirley)   200 pts
These boys battled all the way to the finish with only a couple of points between them thoughout the afternoon.........a great performance.  None of the athletes lacked support during the afternoon as parents & friends cheered them on to some super performances
A BIG thank you to all the volunteer officials who stepped in at the last moment, especially the 2 young leaders from Taunton College (Kelly & Casey)
And finally........ my thanks to the sports centre staff who 'saved' me after the competition........all the gates had been locked and I was stuck 'inside' with my car......home just after 7.30pm
Thank you Southampton a great set of competitions and I'm already looking forward to next year.

09 July 2010 -  Quadkids - Olympic Style!

On the 30thJune, 35 schools and well over 300 young people attended a huge Olympics style event at Northgate Sports Centre.

The event that was part of the "Lloyds TSB National School Sports Week" was aimed at raising the profile of the Olympic Ideals as well as providing an opportunity to really showcase the great potential sportsmen and women we have in the Partnership.

The event started with an opening ceremony in which the performers paraded around the track as countries they had been selected to represent. Everyone then took part in 4 athletic events, a sprint, a longer distance, a throw and a jump gaining points for their team.

Some of the action was electrifying and the crowd really got behind the races to the point where we could hardly hear anything else.

The eventual winners Britannia will now go onto compete in the County finals in Bury St Edmunds and we wish them all the best as they represent the Partnership along with Gorseland who came second.

Big thanks to Northgate High School, Ipswich Borough Council, Ipswich Sports Club, England Athletics and Lloyds TSB and to our own Sport Ambassadors from each of the High Schools for all their support.

Lloyds TSB provided 20 helpers for the event and really got stuck in helping out with all the activities including inputting all the results which allowed us to get the results out on the day.

Each member of the winning team also received a special Lloyds TSB Medallion which has been produced to commemorate London 2012. These are very rare and will hopefully give the winners something to remember the event by.
