03 July 2010 -  10 Yeovil Schools contest QuadKids Pre-Start Competition

On 30th June, 10 schools from the Yeovil area contested the QuadKids Pre-Start competition organised by Tracey White, the SSCo based at Preston School in Yeovil. 93 young athletes took part on a warm sunny afternoon supported by lots of family and friends. There was a great atmosphere and all the children enjoyed the QuadKids format, which allowed them to demonstrate their running, jumping and throwing skills.

Great organisation by Tracey and her band of helpers ensured that the event went very smoothly. She commented "Many of the staff and parents were impressed and staff asked about use in their own schools as Holy Trinity have done all this week". Tracey went on to say "We certainly intend to use it more and more"....

See the results (click on the results tab) and photos (see link below)here on the Somerset microsite.

So come on Somerset SSCO's and PLT's, give QuadKids a chance, break with tradition and let your children experience a new athletics format which is inclusive and team based!!!...

03 July 2010 -  Haringey Inaugural QuadKids fun-fest

More than 130 Haringey competitors helped usher in a new era of athletics at New River Stadium on Friday 2nd July, the sun shone and the indeed how the performances blossomed.

The teamwork and encouragement from all athletes was superb to witness first-hand & we also had a few stand-out individual performers.

Junior from Mulberry was on fire in most of his events, and especially the Vortex Throw where he managed an out of sight 45m+ effort to gain a whopping 93 points for his team and his total score was good enough to achieve the UKA Athletics Quadrathlon Gold standard.

Also flying high on the day was St Pauls & All Hallows Nmaya, who amassed the highest total of points across all four events for her team, with her finest performance coming in the Standing Long Jump where she leapt 2.4m for 79 points.

However, the day was all about the team competition, and there was a titanic battle at the top with St Pauls & all Hallows doing very well on the track and Rhodes Avenue scoring well in the throws & the jumps.

In the end Rhodes Avenue pipped St Pauls & All Hallows to the top of the podium for Gold, with Mulberry taking a hugely well earned Bronze place.

Congratulations to all athletes to took part, after the success of this event we are now hoping to roll out many more QuadKids events in Haringey soon.

And if you are very keen to get back on the track to improve your score we are doing a QuadKids event that is 100% free and open to all on Sunday July 11th at Parliament Hill track from 11am to 1pm, please ask a parent or guardian to register your name with me at ben@quadkids.org

01 July 2010 -  Oakhill Academy Athletics Feast

Pupils from Oakhill Academy took part in a fantastic day of Quadkids action! pupils arrived at 10am with enthusiasum and with a great competative edge.

This was the first sports day the school had taken part in, in it's long history so the pupils could not wait to get out and express themselves on the track and field.

Yrs 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 and 9-10 competed against other teams in their year groups, with many fantastic individual performances along with great team spirit! we even had a teachers event which the pupils enjoyed.

Feedback from parents, teachers and pupils was extremely positive, with one parent saying " I have never seen my child so enthusiastic about sports before, my plan is to take her down to her local athletics club and hope she enjoys it just as much as she did today"

Results and Pictures of the event will posted very soon

30 June 2010 -  Oasis Cluster event at Oakwood School

This was a first for the cluster and coordinator Jonathan Cook could not have had a better start....sunshine, a lovely location, Oakwood School, and some superb young leaders, ex students and staff from Oasis Academy to help on the day!

If there is such a thing as 'smooth as silk' this could be it as everything went like clockwork as the 160 children made there way through all the events.  Some mean performances too which led to some very close finishes in the team and individual events.
Team placings were dominated by Fairisle School who took all the top medals while in the individual placings things were rather different
boys
1st Max (Oakwood); 2nd Leo (Fairisle) 3rd Harvey (Oakwood)
girls
1st Alisha (Fairisle) 2nd Olivia (Shirley Warren) 3rd equal Oakleigh (Fairisle) & Olivia (Shirley Warren)

And finally........my thanks to the lovely ladies who allowed me to plug my laptop into the house mains(via along extention lead) and even gave me a piece of cake......I knew the day was going to be good after that!!!

30 June 2010 -  Fareham Games

What a belter this was.......BIG in every way from numbers taking part (over 400) too the support for all the teams from sponsors with drinks & fruit and a big blue sky to make the afternoon one to remember!!

Some great performances came from this epic tussle between 15 school teams from the Fareham Partnership ably organised by the Young Leaders from Henry Cort School.

The results were so close second looks were called for but eventually it was Locks Heath A team who emerged victorious with Whiteley taking 2nd and Locks Heath B in 3rd.

Individual winners came from 5 different schools ......
boys
1st Jack (Whiteley) 2nd Lewis (St Anthony's) 3rd Sam (Whiteley)

girls
1st Millie (Orchard lea) 2nd Katya (Ranvilles) 3rd Harriet (Locks Heath)

This was a smashing event held in at the superb Henry Cort 'Bowl' which really was a showcase setting with banks along 2 sides giving great spectator views across all the events. Watching the athletes sprinting along both straights whilst 600m runners blasted there way round the track and the howler throwers inside the track line at one end and long jumpers at the other....does it get any better!

well done everyone with special thanks to Kat Holland and Ros Bellamy for all the organisation before hand.

30 June 2010 -  Sportsmanship, Action and Sunshine at Wickersley Final

Rotherhams Herringthorpe Stadium was the venue for the Wickersley SSP Final but it was a small act of sportsmanship which was one of those lump-in-the-throat moments which really left its mark on an excellent morning of athletics and summed up the spirit of Quadkids.
A particularly exciting boys Year 5 / 6 600m heat was in progress with three lads neck and neck on the final bend. In the excitement one athlete tripped and fell to the ground. Sacrificing his own place in the race one of the other athletes stopped, helped the faller to his feet before both resumed their sprint to the finish line. This small act touched a nerve with those watching and Josh B from Treeton School was singled out at the presentations for a special award for his sportsmanship. Top man Josh!
In the Year 3 / 4 competition it was Northfield who collected the team trophy with Anston Park in second and Thurcroft in third. The honours were well spread amonst the schools taking part as a different three schools finished top in the Year 5 / 6 competition - Anston Greenlands in first, just ahead of St Albans in second and Treeton in third.
The event was wonderfully supported by sports leaders from Wales High School and Clifton Comprehensive, and by the SSCo's from the SSP.

30 June 2010 -  Quadkids comes to the East Cambridgeshire Youth Games

As part of the countdown for London 2012 over 300 athletes took part in the East Cambridgeshire Youth Games Quadkids Competition. The event included 23 teams from numerous local schools. As the sun shone over Littleport Leisure Centre athletes were performing to their very best in sprints, jump and throws. Throughout the day specators witnessed some excellent individual performances with many athletes recording new personal bests. One spectator from Ely said ' this was one of the best athletic events she has been too'.

A BIG well done to everyone who took part and a very special mention to the fantastic young sports leaders who made the event happen!

Look out for more Quadkids events in your area!
